Historic funeral home

Front exterior building at Dodd Payne Hess Funeral HomeOur beautiful funeral home in Fayetteville is housed in a 3-story building showcasing late-Victorian architecture. The original structure was built in 1888 as a home for Colonel St. Clair, a C&O Railroad attorney, and then later sold to J.D. Boone, a coal magnate and direct descendant of the legendary Daniel Boone.

At one time, the land now occupied by our funeral home was the site of a Union fort during the Civil War. In addition, visitors will find a natural stone wall with iron gates that grace the front lawns, while a meandering walkway lined with hydrangeas leads you to the front drive.

Gathering spaces

Chapel at Dodd Payne Hess Funeral HomeWe are proud of our history and honor our heritage by preserving our funeral home's features. Most of the building's original charm remains intact, including hand-painted murals on the walls and ceilings. On the 1st floor, you'll find spacious, comforting rooms for services.

Our chapel seats 125 people, with an overflow area that can be used if extra seating is necessary. These spaces provide families both ample space and intimate areas, so they can receive comfort and support.

Grief support

Dodd Payne Hess Funeral Home also sponsors the ANGEL Program (Acknowledge, Nurture, Grow, Embrace, Life). The program was established in 2002, and caters to those who have suffered the loss of a spouse and is open to anyone in the area.

Our ANGEL group meets monthly from April to December on the 2nd Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Fayetteville Church of God Fellowship Center. We also host speakers who discuss a variety of subjects, and we periodically take field trips. This program allows us to offer continued support to the community during this difficult experience.

Planning experts

We know the difficulties associated with planning a memorable funeral or cremation service. Our caring staff is ready to answer all your questions and address any concerns.
